Tiotio is shown as a direct descent from one of the crew of the “Tokomaru” Waka that came from Hawaiki to Aotearoa about the year 1250. Tama-hou-moa Tama Ariki had two other sons, Raroa and Ueha. Ngati Tama is known to take their tribal name from Tama-hou-moa Tama Ariki. Te Kaeaea mother Hinewairoro was of Ngati Toa descent.
